Client and her 3 children are from Guatemala. They entered the US in 2018 through McAllen, Texas and sought asylum. For 2 years they reported to USCIS as they were expected to and got notification for a hearing. They were given work permits and SSN. She has a 19-year-old son who is also under her application that is still in high school. She does not know the current status or whether asylum has been granted or not.

Client has history of DV, in our housing program and was recently re-victimized by new partner. In need of legal aid for VAWA petition. 

Client is from Guatemala. She states she left Guatemala in 2018 and fled to Mexico where she remained for 1 year w/relatives.  She states she came w/her 3 sons, (now 19, 16, and 13) who were all then minors.

Client has lived nearly her entire life in Texas. Would have presumably been approved for DACA, but there were issues with her birth certificate from Mexico. She recently obtained a protective order against her common-law husband and has had custody and support orders established. She is seeking assistance with general immigration/status questions and obtaining a U-Visa. She also has questions on how any divorce proceeding may impact that process.  

Victim's husband has been physically abusing her since they were dating. Victim states the physical abuse has gotten much worse since they married in 2021. Victim has not reported the abuse because the abuser tells her that no one will believe her. He takes videos or her and records her crying saying that she is crazy. The victim has pictures of several of the injuries she has received in the past. The victim is scared to make report because the suspect told her if she reports him he will have her papers taken away. Parties live together.

On 01/30/24, Spanish speaking victim reported that her husband had sexually and physically assaulted her. Victim added there was a history of unreported domestic violence. The suspect was arrested and charged with Continuous Family Violence, Harris County Cause #185372401010.  The victim stated she is in need of a divorce and child custody order. The victim was granted an emergency protection order but she would like assistance filing for a civil protection order.

PNC came to shelter seeking assistance for a protective order. PNC is immigrant from Saudi Arabia and of Indian nationality. Came to the US after an arranged marriage between her parents and husbands parents. Soon after moving into parent-in-laws w/ husband who works here, husband raped PNC. Husband also has possession and control of her immigration documents. PNC is separated and not living in same house as of last update.
