Client and her 3 children are from Guatemala. They entered the US in 2018 through McAllen, Texas and sought asylum. For 2 years they reported to USCIS as they were expected to and got notification for a hearing. They were given work permits and SSN. She has a 19-year-old son who is also under her application that is still in high school. She does not know the current status or whether asylum has been granted or not.

Julian is the 19-year-old son of one of our clients. He is the victim of DV and SA by our client’s spouse who is also guilty of bigamy. He is from Guatemala. He and his family entered into the US in 2018 through McAllen, Texas and sought asylum. For 2 years, they reported to the USCIS and received notification for a hearing. They were given work permits and an SSN. Although he is 19, he has not graduated from high school yet. He is due to graduate in May. His USCIS application was under his mother’s but now he may need to be on his own since he is now considered an adult.

The client is seeking assistance with proceeding with divorce, custody, and child support matters. The divorce process has been ongoing since April 2024, and the case has been rescheduled multiple times. The client has reported that the opposing party became upset upon her filing for custody and subsequently made false accusations of child abuse and endangerment. The client possesses police documentation supporting the falsity of these allegations. Additionally, the client has retained two attorneys, one in April 2024 and another in June 2024, but no progress has been made in the case.

Client has history of DV, in our housing program and was recently re-victimized by new partner. In need of legal aid for VAWA petition. 

Victim of DV with living partner. They have 1yo child. Victim currently living with mother. Abuser calls her from different numbers and asked her to go back home and tells her he wants to see his son.
